Harbor Premier Tryouts and Expectations

Tryouts:

Tryout Information: Tryout time for the 2012–13 RCL season is now. The first group to experience tryouts will be the high school age boys (next season’s U18-U16 teams). Harbor Premier typically has one team at the U18-U16 age bracket and multiple teams at the U15 and below. However, the final number of teams is contingent upon the number and talent of the players at tryouts, as well as the number of players committing. Harbor tries to limit the roster for a single team age bracket to 16, and for age groups with two teams to 15. However the actual number of players asked to join each team is based on the assessment of the head coach at the tryout.

Tryout Schedule: Tryouts consist of two sessions per gender/age bracket. The schedule is listed below:

Some coaches will tell players on the field at the end of the second tryout session while other coaches will contact the player the evening following the last tryout period. The Club will have a registration night for the age group following the tryout period. During registration night, the club and coaches will provide additional information about the upcoming season and players will be able to try-on uniforms and training gear. Times and venue will be posted prior to the tryout event.

Harbor Premier and RCL Information

Length of Season: The Harbor Premier teams typically have a 10 month season (with exception of the high school age teams). The JR RCL through U14 age Teams year is broken out into three distinct periods; including a Training and Summer Tournament Season May-August; Fall League Season September-November; and a Spring League/State Cup Season January-May.

The high school age group teams have one league season. The boys play the fall club league September-November followed directly by State Cup December-February. The girls have fall off for High School soccer mid August-October and start club league in December – May followed immediately by State Cup.

Regular Season Play: Harbor is a member of the Washington Youth Soccer (WYS) Regional Club League (RCL).  The fall season will consist of approximately 12-14 games, while the spring season may consist of fewer games than the fall. Games are typically played on Saturdays and Sundays, however, each team will likely have two double-header weekends in the fall and one in the spring.

Team Placement and Travel: Team placement within an RCL Division is based on the success of the team the previous year. Because the RCL is a state league, it is possible for a team to play in Spokane, Tri-Cities, Yakima, Vancouver, and Bellingham. Actual travel will depend on who is in Harbor's division.

Tournaments: Harbor teams will play a minimum of 3 summer tournaments or the equivalent of friendlies. Some of the older or more competitive teams may play 4 or 5 tournaments. Decisions on which tournaments will be played are based on the coach’s assessment of the team. Player registration fees include two tournaments per team plus State Cup.

Team Fees: Teams will have a separate team fee to cover additional tournaments, travel, and other team expenses. Some teams may perform fundraisers.

Uniforms: The Harbor Premier uniform kit includes two numbered jerseys, shorts, and socks. For those who are new to Harbor there will be an additional expense for; training jacket, training pants, and a team backpack. The uniform kit is included in the player registration fee, unlike many of our RCL competitors. Designated goal keepers on the older age teams will be provided a keeper jersey kit.

Practices: Teams will be provided two 1.5 hour practice sessions per week. During the summer, some teams may have a third practice. Days and times are determined by field allocation that Harbor receives from the Peninsula School District and PenMet Parks, as well as the individual coach’s schedule.  Summer and fall practices typically are on grass fields at Goodman Middle School and Peninsula High School. During the fall and throughout the winter, teams will train on lighted turf fields at Gig Harbor High School and or Peninsula High School. As such, practice times and venues will change throughout the year.  The Club will provide adequate advance notice of practice days and times.

Expectations:

Coach Expectations: Coaches and trainers are expected to abide by codes of conduct of US Youth Soccer, Washington Youth Soccer, and Harbor Soccer Club. Coaches sign a Code of Conduct and are required to pass a Risk Management Assessment (RMA) conducted by the Washington State Patrol. Since the Harbor coaches are professionals, parents can expect them to be punctual to training sessions and games. Coaches will wear appropriate club and training uniforms, and behave in a manner commensurate with their position within the club and as role models.

Player Expectations: Players will be required to sign a Player Code of Conduct. Players are expected to show up on time and properly attired for each training session, game and other team events, unless excused by the coach in advance. Bullying and unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.

Parent Expectations: Parents will be required to sign a Parent Code of Conduct. Parents will make sure that players are on time and properly attired for all training sessions, games, and other team events. Parents will be supportive of the entire team. They will not interfere with players, coaches or referees prior, during, or immediately after games. Parents are required to hold fast to the payment schedule agreed to in the Club Payment Plan and to the agreed team fee.

Volunteering: Each team requires the volunteer efforts of many families. Each team should have a team manager, a team treasurer, and a team website manager. The Club will also require volunteers from each team for the Tyee Cup Tournament, the Club Fundraiser, and for other events throughout the year. All families, other than the manager, treasure, and website manager, should anticipate donating approximately a minimum of 4 hours to the club.

Community Service: In order to maintain Harbors good standing in the community all teams are expected to perform a minimum of 1 philanthropic event during their soccer year. These events help build future leaders on and off the field.

Questions or Concerns: Players/Parents shall take any questions or concerns to their head coach, not to other parents or team managers (also parents). If the issue cannot be rectified with the coach, the player/parent should approach the Premier Program Director. If the question or concern still cannot be resolved, the appropriate chain of command as follows: the Director of Coaching, the VP of Operation and the Harbor Soccer Club Board of Directors.

The Harbor Premier is a program is devoted to the development of boys and girls who are committed, advanced soccer players in the U-10 through U-18 age groups.
